After 'Recognition and production of Rhyme', and according to the package whose summary you can see in the main post of this section, the next step in our track towards our children's phonemic awareness is the recognition and production of syllables. The children must work on divide spoken words into syllables or 'beats'.
Syllables Bingo
There are a large amount of activities you can put into practice in your classroom. I chose the 'Syllable Bingo' because I thought it could be quite appealing. As I didn't find a bingo I completely liked I decided to make my own one. You can get every file of my bingo HERE.
Here you can see the instructions of my bingo:
These are the picture cards and the syllable boards:
I thought that before getting started with the bingo, it should be advisable to carry out an activity in plenary, working on the words we are going to use for the bingo. This is my activity for whiteboard:
This last activity works in the following way: a picture is showed to the children who, with teacher's help, have to segment the words in syllables. Is highly recommended to use claps to mark the beats of the words. Then, we show the second part of the slides - the circles, and the children clap again according to the number of syllables and, desirably, to the stress of them too.
