Phonics, Group 4: ai j oa ie ee or

To download my resources for this group, click on the picture

In this group the aims are slightly different from the aims for previous groups. Digraphs are going to be introduced.

Digraphs (such as ai, oa, ie, ee, or) have two letters but one sound. The child should say the digraph sound, not the sound of each letter. It can be difficult at first. We have to give the child some practice with regular words such as rain, paint, wait...

As you can see, I created some activities to work these digraphs and a complete presentation to work the digraph 'oa'. You can download everything from this post.

ACTIVITIES

OA digrahp

This is a complete presentation to work the digraph 'oa'. I created low-tech resources as well, actually more appropriate for this activity. Here you can see the first slide of the presentation for Smartboard Notebook. You can download the whole presentation clicking on the picture.

These are my low-tech resources:

VOWEL TEAM RHYME

In this group, through the digraphs worked, we introduce the idea of vowel team to the children. There is a very famous rhyme for this used in English-speaking countries:

'When two vowels go walking,
the first one does the talking'
