The True Story of the Three Little Pigs (Fiction, Year 5)

'The True Story of the Three Little Pigs', by Jon Scieszka is a different and funny version of the traditional story 'The Three Little Pigs'. It's the wolf's version. I didn't know this book before and it was a great discovery. I really think children must love this book.

I found this video on the Internet, made by a teacher for its classroom, narrating the story such as it is written in the book. It goes too fast for non-native children, but it can be useful for teacher as an idea or just to know about the book:

CONTRASTING AND COMPARING STORIES

As we have a new version about a well-known story, it's a great opportunity to work on comparisons. A way to do this can be through a Venn Diagram, a type of visual organizer highly used in other subjects, especially Science. We can find this organizer, as usual, in Kidspiration Software. Making use of VCOP Pyramids together with the Venn Diagram we'll help our pupils to write their comparison writings on the two versions of the story: the traditional story and the 'true' story. You can find information about these pyramids and about Kidspiration in the post on Resources for the Literacy Classroom).

Here you can see the diagram made by my work team and an example of composition that could be written by the children with the help of the map an the pyramid:

This would be an example of final product written by one child. Maybe we are being too optimistic but we don't like to underestimate our students ;)
