Phonics, Group 5: z w ng v oo OO

You can download my resources for this group clicking on the image

In this group we introduce a new digraph, which we can actually read in two different ways. It's 'oo'. In this method, we write the letters small and very closed for the sort sound /u/, for example in 'boot'. We write the letters bigger and more separated for the long sound /u:/, for example in 'moon'.

But maybe the most interesting in this group is that we introduce the idea of 'magic e' syllable. I decided to develop this idea through the syllable 'a_e', and we should create activities for each type of magic e syllable. Another interesting point in this group is the introduction of vowel variations - for example for a_e (came) we have also ay (play).

Magic e in a_e, alternative spelling, and making sentences

As I said before, I created some high-tech resources to work on the syllable a_e and variations (alternative spelling). The presentation is for Smartboard Notebook Software and includes some links to other useful webs. Also in this section, children start to work on sentences. The presentation ends with a tale from the net. You can get hold of my presentation HERE.

I also created low-tech resources for this aim.
